NAWW Member Shares Newly Published Book

Posted by on Mar 19 2005 | NAWW Member News

Greetings all. I’m Susanne Dunlap, a new Professional Member. I’m very new to this, but I wanted to share my anxiety/anticipation about the publication of my first book, “Emilie’s Voice”. The official date is April 5, but I know it’s started shipping from some of the online booksellers already. Although I’m 50 and have had several careers, I feel very much as though I have found my true voice at last in writing fiction.

The book has a very female/feminist slant even though it’s historical fiction. I concentrated a lot in my doctoral work on issues of music and the depiction of women through music and the way women and music interacted throughout history. My “elevator pitch” is this:

“Emilie’s Voice” is a novel about a young singer in 17th-century Paris who is “discovered,” and catapulted to instant stardom. Everyone wants to control this magnificent talent, and so Emilie finds herself embroiled in intrigues and rivalries between the two rival mistresses of Louis XIV, and two rival composers, Marc-Antoine Charpentier and Jean-Baptiste Lully.

Looking forward to reading about the activities of the other writers in NAWW!

Susanne Dunlap

New Regional Group in Madison, Maine

Posted by on Mar 15 2005 | NAWW Chapter News

Thank you to NAWW. I just received my packet to start my own regional group in Madison, Maine. Hope to find and recruit many women writers in my area!

Just set up my own blog…….writeinmaine.blogspot.com/

I Hope to hear from other NAWW members and writers!

About Me:
I have been writing for most of my life. Never to be published, though, until I retired as a PostMaster out of the USPS. In the past year, I have written two novels, poetry, children’s stories and a self help booklet titled, Why Not Teach Piano? Thus far, I have had only two poems published. Oh yes, I have also written a lot of music, through the years.

Thanks again to NAWW. You’ve given me a voice and a chance to network.

Sue B.

Blogging-A Creative Release

Posted by on Mar 10 2005 | NAWW Member News

Dear NAWW,
I am delighted to see that NAWW has a blog. It is a fun way to share stories and information on the web. I’ve been thinking about all the information and support I’ve received through NAWW. It is worth far more than what I’ve paid in yearly dues! I started my own blog in January. While it is nothing more than my own musings on life, it feels so good to throw it out there for other people to read. I can write what I want, when I want, and not stress over word count or if it will please an editor. It’s a great creative release when the rejection slips pile up on my desk and I wonder if anyone will ever buy my stories! All of you NAWW members out there, give it a try! You might like it. Good luck with the blog. I’ll be reading it regularly.
