NAWW Member Shares Newly Published Book
Greetings all. I’m Susanne Dunlap, a new Professional Member. I’m very new to this, but I wanted to share my anxiety/anticipation about the publication of my first book, “Emilie’s Voice”. The official date is April 5, but I know it’s started shipping from some of the online booksellers already. Although I’m 50 and have had several careers, I feel very much as though I have found my true voice at last in writing fiction.
The book has a very female/feminist slant even though it’s historical fiction. I concentrated a lot in my doctoral work on issues of music and the depiction of women through music and the way women and music interacted throughout history. My “elevator pitch” is this:
“Emilie’s Voice” is a novel about a young singer in 17th-century Paris who is “discovered,” and catapulted to instant stardom. Everyone wants to control this magnificent talent, and so Emilie finds herself embroiled in intrigues and rivalries between the two rival mistresses of Louis XIV, and two rival composers, Marc-Antoine Charpentier and Jean-Baptiste Lully.
Looking forward to reading about the activities of the other writers in NAWW!
