NAWW Member Request Essays

Posted by on Nov 22 2005 | NAWW Member News

Good morning from beautiful Montana: I am writing a book that is titled “Caution Without Fear-Safeguarding Your Children From Sexual Abuse and Finding Help if it Has Occurred.” It is almost ready to go to the editors but I am looking for short essays (approx. 300-500 words) from people who have healed from childhood traumas. I want to offer a number of different methods that will encourage healing, surviving and overcoming the scary things that happen in life. I would appreciate it if you would share this with those you know. All essays can be sent to JudyWright@ArtichokePress.com Participants will receive a free book, even if their essay is not used in the book. Thank you for your assistance.

NAWW Member Shares Numerous Successes With Her Poetry

Posted by on Nov 18 2005 | NAWW Member News

On November 3rd 2005, Cheryl A. Vatcher-Martin, M.A. was recognized through Artists Among Us 2005 for her first place win, Award of Distinction in Literary Arts for her poem “Woman Reclining based upon the artwork “Woman Reclining” by artist Donna Jackson. Her poem is prominently displayed at the Sisson Gallery at Henry Ford Community College. It is the first piece that visitors see as they go through the gallery doors.

This is her second year as a juried poet through AAU, and to be accepted she had to submit samples of her poetry to be considered for the competition. After her acceptance, she had to write poetry based upon the artwork selected for the exhibit which runs through December 16th 2005. Last year she had 37 poems in a book on display at the Village Theatre at Cherry Hill in Canton, Michigan.

In addition, on September 13th 2005 she had four of her Haiku on display in an exhibit in Lowell, Michigan which ran through October 29th 2005.

“She’s enjoyed this tremendously,”Vatcher-Martin said. Her debut column in the new publication “The Ledger” in Plymouth Michigan appears in the November issue. Her award winning poem is published alongside her column as well!

Over the years she has been asked “Why do you write poetry? “You can’t make any money at it,” nay sayers would quip. She thought that was funny, and now, as she has just cashed that check for $500.00 finds that five fresh one hundred dollar bills are a reality that shows hard work truly does pay off!

In addition to her poetic endeavors, she has reached a worldwide audience this past July when she had one of her articles reprinted on Military.com.

NAWW Member Publishes Poetry Chapbook

Posted by on Nov 18 2005 | NAWW Member News

NAWW member, Elaine Dallman, has a newly-published poetry chapbook, Nevadans, which is being distributed by the San Francisco nonprofit, Women in Literature. The renowned poet Mary Stewart Hammond has said this about Nevadans: “I love these poems. They possess a wry vision rich in subtle ironies and emotional generosity. The language and imagery are as real and surreal as Nevada itself, as gritty and spare as its geography, as dry and fresh as the desert air. This is the work of a true original, a genuine explorer of the physical and emotional.”

Throughout her literary career, Elaine Dallman has been active in programs that bring poets and poetry directly into the community. 185 of Dallman’s poems have been printed in a wide variety of literary anthologies. She has won 125 national and international contests, and received 16 grants and scholarships for innovative teaching, writing and publishing. She has directed workshops in which thousands of men and women enrolled, and has taught at Southern Illinois University and the University of Nevada at Reno.

For ordering information for Nevadans, please visit the author’s web site, www.elainedallman.com, and order from Women in Literature, 601 Van Ness Avenue, #6. The cost is $12.00 + $2.00 shipping and handling + $1.02 CA sales tax.
