Author and Baby Boomer Beverly Mahone Brings Her WHATEVER! Issues to Life on Internet Radio

Posted by on Jul 26 2006 | NAWW Member News

Issues facing Baby Boomers are discussed weekly in a brand new podcast stemming from the release of Mahone’s book, WHATEVER! A Baby Boomer’s Journey Into Middle Age.

Veteran Journalist-turned-author Beverly Mahone is capitalizing on the success of her first book with a new internet radio show called WHATEVER! It is being offered through Success-Talk.com or her website at: www.talk2bev.com

Ms. Mahone says topics discussed on her show include middle age dating, working for younger bosses, leaving your job to pursue your dreams, menopause and sex after 40. She is also encouraging listeners to write in with topic suggestions and possible guest appearances.

Ms. Mahone says, “When I worked in the media, there wasn’t a lot of reporting on issues facing my generation because the reporters covering the stories were too young to understand them.” She adds, “As a boomer, I know the issues and I can intelligently discuss them.”

In addition to the radio show, Mahone has also created a WHATEVER! Social Networking Club for women in the Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina area. She expects to form other clubs in the Southeast in the future.

How To Form and Promote a Writing Group

Posted by on Jul 26 2006 | Free Articles

Writers must network with other writers in order to learn and grow. My local writing group serves as a passion support mechanism for my writing. It is invaluable to me because it is the sacred place where I share my experiences, triumphs, and struggles as a writer. To form and promote a writing group in your local area, follow the steps below–before long you will have an energetic passion support mechanism for your own words. Good Luck and Have Fun!

Vision and Purpose

Have in mind a vision and general purpose for your local writing group. Your vision and purpose should be created based on the needs of your members. This can be a bulleted list of the reasons your group exists. At your first meeting, openly brainstorm with the new members by passing out a questionnaire. After your meeting, it is very easy to type up the purpose and vision of your new writing group from reading your participants’ responses.

How To Eliminate Stress by Eliminating Responsibilities: Use a Time Management Chart

Posted by on Jul 25 2006 | Free Articles

Know When It Is Time To Eliminate Responsibilities

Feeling stressed lately? Too many to-do’s on your to-do list? If you are doing too much for too many people, you must eliminate some of the stress in your life. Start by eliminating the responsibilities that do not directly contribute to the top three goals in your life. Many areas of your life will improve immediately. Lightening your load will benefit you by improving the quality of your health and your relationships. Reevaluate your responsibilities using a time management chart at least twice a year.

Start By Writing Down Your Goals

Before you can begin to eliminate responsibilities, you need to decide what your top three goals are. They do not need to be in order of importance. Mine are: 1) Nurture myself, 2) Spend quality time with my family, and 3) Grow my businesses.

Take Care Of Yourself: Use These Three Life-Tuning Strategies

Posted by on Jul 25 2006 | Free Articles

I am an entrepreneur and a mother of four young children. I balance three separate businesses and the needs of my entire family (including a husband, cat, and a puppy) and I still find time to take care of myself. How do I do it? By following three important Life-Tuning Strategies. All three strategies benefit your mind, body, and soul. It is time to take care of yourself for a change–let’s get started!

1. JOURNAL FROM THE HEART

The first strategy is journaling. And I even take this one step further by saying we should try to journal from the heart–meaning we should write about those issues that touch us personally in some way. Positive and negative. Journaling is therapeutic and nurtures your mind and soul. Michele Weldon, author of Writing to Save Your Life says that “writing down your experiences moves them to a new place in the sun where they can grow and your understanding of your history can flower.” Joan Didion, another journalist and author, said that journaling or writing helps you “to find out what you are thinking, what you are looking at, what you see and what it means, what you want and what you fear.” How long has it been since you asked yourself some of these important questions? Answering them may just be the release you need. Find at least 15 minutes a day to journal–and you will begin to feel calmer and less stressed.

7 Tips For Your Writing And Publishing Success

Posted by on Jul 24 2006 | Free Articles

  1. Create Accountability

I have found that accountability is the key to my production. Plans are also crucial to my getting large projects completed on time. Planning helps me alleviate the overwhelmed feeling that we all experience. I personally do not get a lot of writing done if I wait for the muse. I also find that if you “have to” make money at something, you find a way to accomplish that goal one way or another. For this reason, the National Association of Women Writers (NAWW) created a coaching program for nonfiction book writers that offers this accountability, plus a manual that walks writers through the book proposal process.

  2. Think Long-Term

As a publisher, our goal is to build long-term relationships. This is one reason the NAWW creates a new printed book for its members every year (it gives them a tangible reason to renew). Then after they go out of print, they are available in our eBook Library. You can read more about each of the books on our website. We create each book based on the feedback during the year that we receive through e-mail and our continuous Web site survey. Continue Reading »
