Member Interview of the Week - Ogo Ogbata

Posted by on Jun 28 2007 | Member of the Week

This Week: Ogo Ogbata

Q: When did you realize you wanted to be a writer?

A: In a sense, writing has always been etched in the fabric of my consciousness. I went from doodling at age 2 to writing short plays at age 5. My schoolmates couldn’t understand why I churned out essays and created mock ups for a fictitious magazine while they built sand castles. Seriously, I can’t exactly remember ‘wanting to be a writer’ because I have always been one. However, I was about 17 years old when I realized that I wanted to make a ‘serious’ career out of it.

How To Get Ahead In The World Of Publishing

Posted by on Jun 28 2007 | Free Articles

I love networking with potential customers, organizations, and yes, even vendors. It is fun to share what you learn with others and you never know where your next customer is coming from. Here are some of my favorite business/publishing techniques I have learned so far… use them and you will “get ahead” too!

Determine where your target market goes and then go sell your products at that location. I have found that businesswomen love our products and services more than writers! I would never have targeted businesswomen over women writers, but over and over again, businesswomen jump on our memberships, books, and audioseminars. So once you find a receptive market, learn from it and then go to it!

Target one audience. Specialize! You will position yourself as the person or group to go to for the service or product you provide. The National Association of Women Writers (NAWW) is Where Women Unite To Write. That is targeted and specific. Continue Reading »

Member Interview of the Week - Sylvia Clute

Posted by on Jun 14 2007 | Member of the Week

This Week: Sylvia Clute

Q: When did you realize you wanted to be a writer?

A: I knew when I was a young woman that there was a desire within me to write, but there was not enough impetus for me to begin. It was only after working in the legal system as a trial attorney for many years being in the “belly of the beast” and seeing first-hand the need to find a better way to resolve our disputes and deal with societal breakdown that a voice within me began to speak.

But it began as a driving desire to learn about possible alternatives, and different ways of framing issues and answers. This led to years of studying everything that I felt might provide clues to what that better way was. I knew I had to refresh my understanding of what was happening in science, including learning the basics about quantum physics. I needed to investigate what was happening in the holistic medicine movement, as that was another profession going from the Newtonian world to a more quantum framing of illness and wellbeing. I was led to study the philosophy of the Freemasons, to find the spiritual roots of our nation’s founding. And I studied many writings about spirituality and inner growth.
