How to Create Passionate Connections

Posted by on Sep 25 2007 | Free Articles

Do you feel validated? I heard Oprah once say that she thinks everyone on this earth has one basic need—to be validated. I know when I started the National Assn of Women Writers it was because I needed to find other women who loved to write and create like me. I needed to learn with them and laugh with them because I yearned for the validation that I would receive as I in turn validated the writers too. Little did I realize at the time how many women all over the world needed their goals and dreams affirmed just as I did.

I too believe that validation or passionate connections as I like to call them are so important that I have built multiple companies with that vision in mind. Here are a five ways I have learned to create passionate connections and validate others over the last seven years as I grew the NAWW and my other companies ( www.sherimcconnell.com). Even if you don’t want to start a business—whatever your goals are—I know you will accomplish them by reaching out to validate others and following the tips below. Enjoy the journey!

NAWW Member Interview: Mugoux

Posted by on Sep 25 2007 | Member of the Week

Q: When did you realize you wanted to be a writer?
A: In college, but it took me a long time to feel I had anything to say. Sometimes I still wonder.

Q: How and when did you make this dream a reality?
A: I’ve journaled ever since high school, but I began to make my living as a writer when I became a creative director in the field of corporate multi-media about ten years ago, I wrote/created videos and promotional copy for a variety of marketing purposes. Then I began writing screenplays and plays, winning awards, but soon realized that I would have to make a much deeper commitment for either of those forms to really work. So I decided to go for novels because I could have more creative control and I had a series in mind that would occupy me for some years. It was a commitment I felt I could truly accomplish.

Posted by on Sep 19 2007 | Member of the Week

Q: When did you realize you wanted to be a writer?
A: I fell into it really. I started out being a bio lab technician and gravitated to helping the post docs with their white papers. I then took the Publishing Procedures Course one summer at Radcliffe College and that’s when I knew I wanted to be in publishing. My first job was as Promotion Coordinator for the World Science Division of Addison Wesley.

Q: How and when did you make this dream a reality?
A: After years of writing promo copy and brochures, I wanted to do something more meaningful. I found the science journalism program at Boston University and found my voice writing about science.

Q: What’s the most important lesson you’ve learned so far in your writing career?
A: Allow the process to happen.
