NAWW Weekly News – March 26, 2009

Posted by on Mar 26 2009 | NAWW News

Hi Women Writers,

Welcome once again to all the new subscribers and members this week.

I spent last week in Key Biscayne with my 2009 Inner Circle Mastermind and it was such a magical experience for all of us.  Keep your eyes on these women, they are each creating change and starting movements of their own.

Then I leave again this Sunday for a series of wonderful trips… I will be gone 8 days total and yes, I love my husband for handling all 4 kiddos while I am gone.  Please know it took a decade to get him here! So don’t give up on your husband if you have one. LOL.

First, I head to West Hollywood to work with Tamara Gold and Leslie Bohm for what I will call “Visual Rebranding Magic” and then I head to two conferences in Redondo Beach and Laguna Beach. First, Ali Brown’s Platinum and then Melanie Benson Strick’s CEO Factor. It will be an amazing week for sure! Please make sure to say “Hi” if you are going to be at either of these events.

To your success,

I hope you are doing wonderful this week, my children are already out for Spring Break. We had two gorgeous days of sun and then the last two days have been cold and rainy. Ya gotta love Texas, right. It could totally be worse though, the kiddos could be sick! Knock on wood.

NAWW Member News: Author Honored with Back-to-Back Book Awards

Posted by on Mar 09 2009 | NAWW Member News

Susan M. Heim, member of the National Association of Women Writers, has received the prestigious iParenting Media Award and Mom’s Choice Silver Book Award for her book, Boosting Your Baby’s Brain Power (Great Potential Press, 2009).

The iParenting Media Awards honor products based on their product quality, ease of use, educational nature and uniqueness, among other criteria. iParenting.com, an online community for parents and parents-to-be, is part of Disney Online’s network of family-focused Web sites including Disney Family.com, FamilyFun.com and Wondertime.com. The Mom’s Choice Awards® (MCA) are known for establishing the benchmark of excellence in family-friendly media, products, and services.

“Just as an athlete has to practice his sport in a certain order to build up to the main event, so do infants have to take ‘baby steps’ toward optimal brain development, which is created and driven by experiences with Mommy, Daddy, and caregivers,” says Susan Heim, co-author of Boosting Your Baby’s Brain Power. So what can mommies and daddies do? According to Susan, quite a bit—including spoiling your baby rotten, repeating activities, peaking curiosity, and keeping an eye out for red flags. Her book describes these vital windows of opportunity and strategies to help parents help babies and toddlers reach their developmental potential.

Susan Heim is a former Senior Editor for the Chicken Soup for the Soul series. Her books include Oh, Baby! 7 Ways a Baby Will Change Your Life the First Year; It’s Twins! Parent-to-Parent Advice from Infancy Through Adolescence; Twice the Love: Stories of Inspiration for Families with Twins, Multiples and Singletons; and, Chicken Soup for the Soul: Twins and More. A mother of four, she dispenses parenting advice through her blog, “Susan Heim on Parenting,” and TwinsTalk website.

To learn more about your local author and her brain-boosting tips, view our online media kit. Review copy and interview requests can be emailed to Kristina@giftedbooks.com. Excerpts from the book are also available for reprint with permission with topics including: How to Bond with Your Newborn, Language- and Literacy-Building Activities, and Exercises for Improving Babies’ Motor Skills.

Great Potential Press (GPP), based in Scottsdale, is an award-winning company that has published books for parents and teachers of bright children for more than two decades

NAWW Member Speaks Up and Helps Women Writers with Time Management

Posted by on Mar 09 2009 | NAWW Member News

Kim Stacey, NAWW member, is delighted to share some of the rave reviews received from those women who read the newly released ebook, Women Writers Speak Up: A Time Management Guide for Women Writers. “The ebook was co-authored by me and Kelly Curtis (www.kellyanncurtis.com), and I think we did a remarkable job, if I do say so myself!”

Shannon Walker-Lembke, freelance commercial writer agrees. She wrote “Pick a page, any page and you’ll find something worth trying or that warrants being reminded of to help you be a more effective writer.”

The ebook is based on survey results of women writers from across the country, and is chock-full of insights they generously shared with the authors.

Other women writers were also very supportive. Amanda Evans shared her views: “The Women Writers Speak Up guide to time management is one of the best e-books I’ve read of late. Unlike most time management e-books that only cover the basics like creating a to do list, this e-book goes much further and actually looks at time management not just for your writing but for your whole life.”

We even had a couple men offer their own wonderful words about the value of the ebook. Jesse Plummer, who was facing the daunting task of writing his thesis, wrote to tell us, Although it’s written for women writers, I figured if this ebook can save me even a small amount of time, it would be worth reading. What I found was a comprehensive guide to time management; more tips, tricks, and methods than I could implement at one time.” You can read more accolades and testimonials on the Web site, http://www.timemanagementforwomenwriters.com.

Kim invites all NAWW members to visit the site, www.timemanagementforwomenwriters.com, and sign up for the two gifts – both of which will shift your mindset around time and productivity. “Check out the bonuses too; they round-out the ebook nicely.”
