Hi Creators!
Just wanted to write and say Happy “Boo” Day!
Here are some pictures we took this week from our neighborhood party and parade.
My husband was very scary as Dorothy… just a warning. And our dog–Emily got most of the attention as a hot dog.
Take care and have a safe night.

My Kiddos–Hannah (Angel/Devil), Andrew (Tigger), Natalie (Witch with Glasses), Megan (Witch), Emily (Hot Dog)

Me (Scarecrow) and my husband Seth (Dorothy)

Honey–I Am Having A “Business”

Hi Creators!
I coach a lot of new business owners–many of them are women–and most of them have a common struggle. They have a spouse that gets stressed about the amount of money it takes to build a profitable business.
I know–the irony–it takes money to make money.
Here are some of my recent thoughts on how you might help your non-entrepreneurial husband understand your need to “have this business”…
First–sit your husband down and break the news.
Say it slowly so that he actually thinks you will say “baby” at the end and then be relieved when you say “business” instead.
So say, “Honey, I am having a business.”
Then proceed to get him ready for the arrival by sharing the following. And don’t worry–eventually–your husband will adjust to the new baby, I mean business.
Here are some points to make in your heart-to-heart conversation. Good Luck!
- There will be at least nine months of waiting to see my hard work emerge–It takes time to build a strong foundation for my business. I will need coaches and mentors to give me the right advice on how to bring this business into the world. So please be patient if I get a little moody. I am growing and learning new things.
- We will have to spend some money to help it flourish and grow–We will have to invest in some new “stuff” in order to give birth to and to be able to feed this new business in the coming years.
- We will have to be willing to let it constantly learn and make mistakes–I won’t have all the answers and I sure can’t offer you guarantees about how this will turn out–but I know I will only become more successful at parenting this business when I am actively playing with it and paying attention to it. So I might not have as much time for you as I used to.
- There will never be a right time to do this–I know for a fact that there will never be a right time to do this. We will never have the perfect situation to start this business. I am willing to grow into a new person if you are.
- I know I don’t have all the answers–I won’t know a lot in the beginning and it will probably be stressful until we get used to our new lives, but I know deep in my heart if you are on board–we can make this work.
- We will never know the feeling of having our own successful business if we don’t try–This will be an exciting journey for us with many challenges but I know it will be worth it and I do know that it will change our lives for the better if we let it.

Success Tips From Christine Kane

Hi Creators!
Hope you are having a great weekend–I wanted to share another great post from someone I interviewed earlier this year over at the National Assn of Women Writers.
Her name is Christine Kane and she is funny and witty and inspiring. She is a singer and songwriter and entrepreneur. She just blogged about 12 success tips for the self-employed/entrepreneur that I think are right on target.
When I interviewed her about “The Path of Song”, I was most impressed at her ability to be exceptionally creative and smart in business at the same time. I have worked with many writers in the last decade and this isn’t an easy thing to do.
Make sure you visit her blog often because her lifestyle is inspiring for anyone seeking to build a business around their talents and passions.

I Am Many Things

Hi Creators!
Do you believe you can only be great at one thing? I don’t. I KNOW I can be awesome at many. A few times I was pushed down by the societal belief that I would some how be mediocre at what I did if I chased more than one dream at a time. I read something really powerful by Maya Angelou once–she essentially said she just didn’t believe that she could only be great at one thing but owed it to the world to not hold back and to pursue multiple dreams–she felt that by holding back, she was holding back on touching so many lives! Now when someone says something to me about how much I choose to pursue or even worse–they make that their excuse for not pursuing a dream of their own–I think of Maya’s words and move forward.

So yesterday when I read this post (see below) on one of my favorites sites by one of my favorite people on the web: http://girlatplay.com/blog (Side note: I had Alex speak at one of my conferences over at the National Assn of Women Writers a few years ago and she is an amazing creative spirit. She is one of those people that inspire you just by being in the room with you…)
Here is the post she shared about one of her favorite women–I LOVE this and I say to all of you–Don’t Hold Back-Ever!
“who says you must only be one thing? who says you can’t be an artist and want to make money? would you only invest in one stock? would you bank your life savings on that stock? hell no! it’s all about diversification. it’s about being honest with regard to your value and your potential.”
